The Cosmunity Marvelous NYE 24-Hour Video Race will commence at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel on Thursday, December 29 at Noon. The race takes place across the next 24 hours. Productions are due by 11:59 am on Friday, December 30.
Winners will be announced following the screening of all the entries on Sunday, January 1. A panel of judges led by Robert Meyer Burnett (FREE ENTERPRISE) will pre-screen the entries and make their decisions over the weekend.
To be included in the judging, teams must turn in their completed film on a USB flash drive by 11:59 am on Friday, December 30. (Flash drives will be tagged and returned at the screening event on Sunday, January 1.) Total run time, including credits, of all videos must run five (5) minutes or less. Films will be judged using several criteria, including your skill in incorporating the four elements given to each team at the launch of the Race.
Teams will also be assigned an attending celebrity at random to participate in their filming. TEAMS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING WITH CELEBRITY GUESTS ON TIME AND LOCATION OF THEIR PARTICIPATION.
Film and video makers of all levels of experience are invited to participate in the race. Student teams compete against other student teams.
The Grand Prize will be a one-year full subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition. (Subscription will be provided by Cosmunity, with details managed between Grand Prize winners and Cosmunity officials on site.)
Entry to the MNYE 24-Hour Film Race is free if any team member is a four-day badge holder (general admission or VIP) to Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve; or a flat fee of $50, due no later than Tuesday, December 27. (Race entry fee is obtained through Ticketing Page at http://MarvelousNYE.com .) Proof of entry fee payment or MNYE badge must be shown at check-in.
Race Team Categories
Super 8 Division (12th grade and under)
$75/team -Team captains must be 18 years of age or older, or adult mentor must register and supervise team. Team captain is responsible for providing MNYE with written evidence that each participant under 18 has obtained the prior written consent of a parent or legal guardian to participate in the 24-Hour Video Race. 16mm Division (College Teams)
Teams comprised from students from a single university. General Competition (All Ages over 18)
The screenings of the work of all the entrants will be Sunday 1 January in the MNYE Screening Room.
The winning videos will be displayed on GeekExpos.com, and in their YouTube channel. Additionally, they’ll be eligible to screen on KERA –TV Channel 13’s program “Frame of Mind,” and the Dallas International Film Festival.
